I was sorry to read of the passing of Roy Scheider. While most obits will focus on Jaws, his 2010 film came out right during my big Arthur C. Clarke phase in high school — and I was a huge fan of the film and its attempts at scientific accuracy. Scheider was nothing like the actor who played the same role in 2001 — but I think he brought a quality that helped ground viewers through the film's more fantastic sequences. I talked with Keir Dullea about the film and his scene with Scheider a few years ago — I'm sorry not to have had the chance to meet the man himself.
