Star Wars: Knight Errant — Deluge #5
"DELUGE" PART 5
As with all my “production notes,” consider a “Spoiler Warning” attached. Please read the books first.
David Daza stepped
in as artist to finish off Knight Errant
- Deluge, with Sergio
Abad continuing as inker -- and it's a very unusual issue
indeed, as we have probably the first zero-gravity duel with a Hutt
ever!
We're away from Aquilaris, at last, and fully into the situation we saw
developing all along. Because of the infighting between the Sith, there
are fissures that outsiders can take advantage of — large enough for
even a Hutt. But Daiman's universe has complexities undreamt of, as he
tells us -- and Darkknell has a surprising defender.
But the Sith are capable of defending themselves, too, when they focus
— and as those who have read the novel
know, they do have some common ties. The holographic witnesses of
Zodoh's fate, we might notice, are Odion, Malakite, and Arkadia -- all
connected by the Charge Matrica. We might well expect that this group
hologram -- as opposed to the ones Zodoh was doing with his own
technology -- implemented the system that Vilia had put in place for
just such a purpose, with her permission.
The need for a central supercomputer -- much like the control station
for the battledroids in Phantom Menace
-- is the Achilles heel of the Stormdriver technology, and the reason
we don't see it later on. It always struck me that nothing could be
more data-intensive than the analysis and manipulation of an entire
atmosphere.
TRIVIA
- Lord Daiman sure isn't much help to his people, is he? Amusing to get the term "cognitive dissonance" in an issue, especially since a lot of the dilemma in the original Knights of the Old Republic series was rooted in "precognitive dissonance," so to speak!
- Daiman's seven-sided Sanctum Celestial is a setting for the Knight Errant novel; the tower we see here is a different location, where he can monitor things (and stay dry!).
- Someone mentioned that Daiman's scene in the rainy control room should be accompanied by a static-filled video message coming in from Captain James T. Kirk, a la Star Trek IV. I like it!
- We did an explosive decompression scene in Aflame #3, and here again, after a fashion; this time, at least, Kerra had someone flying the rescue craft toward her. (She notes she's had practice!) So a lower difficulty rating on this maneuver!
- Note again that Daiman's eyes both go golden when he's angry or uses his powers.
- We see Odion again this issue -- and it's appropriate, as he's a big part of the next round of comics, Knight Errant - Escape, set for June 2012!
